  • High speed trains with monorails linking major centres away from the central rail network including the airport, universities and city centres
  • Cultural centre on the Indian Ocean rim
  • World centre of indigenous culture
  • River of lights along the river
  • Mix of retail, residential and business in the CBD
  • Make Perth attractive for the type of people we want here including innovative, community minded people
  • Home to international students from around the world
  • Retain people with quality of life & critical mass
  • Adapt time to our needs. Longer opening hours for shops & cultural centres given our long working days
  • Bold leadership required
  • Link Kings Park to the city of Perth
  • Develop a sense of identity
  • Change collective mindset to say yes more often
  • Look to the future
  • Develop Cottesloe foreshore

C2030 Perth – Big Opportunities

John Day MLA, Minister for Planning, Arts & Culture made the following points -

  • The summit will have a focus on Perth
  • Western Australia is 2,500,000 square kilometres or an area the size of Europe
  • There will be big opportunities and good prospects for West Australian’s
  • Western Australia is a boom bust state, 1890’s the goldrush and the goldfields, 1960’s Iron ore and more recently gas
  • We need to consider how to diversify the spread of our population into the regions
  • We need to consider climate change & energy use
  • There is a need for a higher degree of urban density
  • Protection & conservation of the environment is important
  • There are a number of long term development projects on the Government radar including, Northbridge/city link project, Land use Planning Framework – Directions 2031 Open for Comments, Perth & Peel regions, extra 330,000 homes & 550,000 people, 47% via urban infill, opportunities around major transport lines, 10 homes per hectare will push up to 15 per hectare, more choice & diversity in types of home, time to grow ‘upwards’, Perth Waterfront Project (Riverside, WACA Ground, Causeway), will be precinct for residential living, commerce & tourism, Belmont Race Course into high density housing, Scarborough beach area, Victoria Park area, precinct around state library & museum, industrial land around Perth Region, Hope Valley, Wattleup, Airports expanded
  • Reduction in red tape
  • Need to be proactive
  • Urban form & design
  • Retail trading hours
  • Change in the way planning transpires

C2030 Perth - Lots of $'s available for development

The C2030 Perth summit was opened by Mike Smith, Summit Chairman.
  • There will be lots of dollars ($) available for future development
  • The Federal government will spend $43 billion to build a national fire to the curb network
  • The goal is to generate 20% of Western Australian energy from renewable by 2020

C2030 Broome – Western Australian State Infrastructure Development & LNG Precinct

Anne Nolan, head of the newly formed Department of State Development discussed future planning for Western Australian state infrastructure with particular focus on the LNG Precinct at James Point during the C2030 Broome summit.

·         Living standards will be impacted by future development

·         Development has to be sustainable & responsible

·         Western Australia has massive resource potential

·         There is a world class wilderness area to consider in the Kimberleys

·         A holistic focus must drive development

·         Land must be secured for aboriginal communities

·         Currently, the drivers in the Kimberleys are too narrow – pearling, fishing, tourism & agriculture

·         Scientific research must lead any development activity

·         The overarching theme must be about community

·         A special development package is being developed for the east Kimberley

·         There will be big projects for a big state

·         Kimberley LNG is a world class gas reserve

·         Browse Basin is a site for the future

·         Significant work went into identifying the right site with James Price Point being selected as the most appropriate

·         Roads, infrastructure & services must lead development of the gas resource

·         Enormous business opportunities

Smiths Beach Development to proceed

Canals Rocks Pty Ltd has been granted approval to move ahead with their combined tourism & residential project at Smiths Beach in the South West of Western Australia. This project is smaller than an initial project submitted to the Busselton Shire over nine years ago. The initial project design was mired in controversy due to its' size and held back by both the council & the Environmental Protection Agency.

Developer plans luxury residential marina off Yanchep in Western Australia

A Singapore-based businessman is planning a radical, high-tech marina complex development 600 meters of the Yanchep coast in Western Australia. The development will using technology from the oil rig industry to construct the huge floating complex in an environmentally friendly way. The complex would incorporate a twenty story hotel structure with a lotus leaf design, boat moorings and recreational facilities.
